Subject access requests (SARs)

What is a subject access request?

People about whom you hold personal data (known as data subjects) have the right to ask to see that data. This is called a subject access request, or SAR. In an out of school club you are most likely to receive one from a parent, from a current or former employee, or from a third party such as a solicitor acting on their behalf.

A SAR can be made in writing or verbally, and it does not have to use the words “subject access request” to count. You must respond within one month of the request. Failure to respond properly can lead to a complaint to the ICO.
