The Adventures of Pinocchio was written by Carlo Collodi in 1881. In the original story, Pinocchio was a rascal prone to telling lies who enjoyed falling in with bad company. Collodi intended it to be a warning about bad behaviour. When Walt Disney got his hands on the story in 1940, he adapted Pinocchio's character to be more innocent and likeable, and this is the version that most of us probably remember. Although my personal favourite is the Pinocchio in Shrek!
